Makers of this horn - John Shooter England have designed and made a selection of Fox Hunting Horns for several years. There are no maker marks on our horns.
Size & shape - The body is either copper or brass. The stem is brass but we also use copper. The mouthpiece is brass.
Method of construction - The bell (copper part) is either made using the tradition spinning process where a flat sheet of metal is formed around a spinning mandrel or the original way of making horns using a sheet and beating by hand and joining it along the length with a brazed seam. We use both methods!
Mouthpiece - All our mouthpieces are plain and robust with rounded edaged and rim for comfort. We have been commended many times on our mouthpiece design.
Decoration - We have several designs, some with embossed patterns and other with bands. Please check all our horns and select the one that takes your eye.
Bell Sizes - our bell sizes vary from 2" to 2.25".
Dents - Some of our horns with have minor dents in places but these are very minor, most horns will have no dents at all.
Quality of finish - We have no machine marks and all our horns are polished.
Remember - A real hunting horn to a user is an instrument - a tool - all our horns are instruments for use in the field. They are not ornaments but of course can be used as such.
